Traverse - the ultimate ski mountaineering challenge

An unforgettable traverse on skis from the shore of the Salangen Fjord through spectacular mountains to the shore of the Lavangen Fjord. 

In this format we offer a special challenge for those ski mountaineers who are extremely fit, want to make the most of the day and have a passion of gaining verticals. We offer you an outstanding day in Astafjord’s wildest terrains. In search for the best untouched powder slopes we are going to cross mountain ridges with a spectacular view on the fjords. We will put our skins on and off frequently an you will experience all the grandeur of Astafjord’s spectacular mountain ranges. Depending on your motivation and fitness we will gain up to 3000m vertical meters or even more! Each descent will be unique with untouched snow and an absolute sense of adventure. We will move through this vast and majestic mountain arena with nothing but the minimum we need. 

Discover Astafjord's beauty through the purest and most natural way of exploration: by ski and with a small group of a maximum of two person per guide. An absolute unique challenge you should not miss out.

What to bring

  • light but wide touring skis, skins, light boots and ski poles

  • helmet

  • ski crampons

  • beacon, shovel and probe

  • harness, light crampons, ice axe (can also be rented on site)

  • touring back pack with dedicated safety pocket for probe and shovel

  • thermos bottle, water bottle and bladder - very important you will need a lot of liquid to stay hydrated

  • very warm insulated jacket, down or synthetic with hood that fits a helmet

  • goggles

  • sun glasses

  • face mask

  • warm hat

  • head band or light hat

  • sun cap

  • Gore Tex or windproof Soft-shell jacket with vent zips

  • Gore Tex or windproof Soft-shell pants with vent zips

  • light wind proof gloves

  • Gore Tex gloves

  • extra warm mittens

  • light technical ankle high water proof shoes with rugged sole

  • two sets of base layers top and bottom - wool or synthetic

  • sun screen
